Monrovia Tech Summit 2024: A Resounding Success with Key Outcomes and Future Vision

Monrovia, Liberia – The third edition of the Monrovia Tech Summit (MTS) concluded on a high note, leaving participants inspired and equipped with actionable insights for driving digital transformation and youth empowerment in Liberia. Held at the iCampus in Monrovia, the summit brought together leading experts, policymakers, industry leaders, and young professionals to explore the theme of “Digital Transformation and Youth Empowerment: Bridging the Gap in Liberia.”

Peterking Quaye, the Summit Director, expressed his enthusiasm about the summit’s success, stating, “The Monrovia Tech Summit 2024 has demonstrated the power of collective effort in advancing digital literacy and fostering a culture of innovation in Liberia. Our discussions on tech law and regulation, particularly on strengthening the civic space, have laid the groundwork for meaningful reforms and collaborations.”

One of the most impactful sessions was the panel discussion on “Tech Law and Regulation: Strengthening Civic Space in Liberia.” This session featured esteemed panelists who provided critical insights and proposed actionable interventions to enhance the regulatory framework and promote a more inclusive digital ecosystem.

Carol Doe, Platform Manager – Viamo: Carol emphasized the importance of creating a regulatory environment that encourages innovation while protecting citizens’ rights. She highlighted the need for public-private partnerships to develop and implement policies that address the challenges of digital transformation.

Willcom Duncan, CEO BRADCOM – Liberia: Willcom discussed the role of education in bridging the digital divide, advocating for increased investment in ICT education and training programs. He called for a collaborative approach to build a skilled workforce capable of driving the nation’s digital agenda.

Phil Dixion from Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA), Cllr. Phil stressed the necessity of robust cybersecurity measures to safeguard Liberia’s digital infrastructure. He proposed the establishment of a national cybersecurity framework that involves all stakeholders, including government, private sector, and civil society. The summit also featured various workshops, keynote speeches, and networking sessions, providing participants with practical skills and knowledge to navigate the digital landscape. As we look ahead to the Monrovia Tech Summit 2025, we are committed to building on this year’s successes and addressing the emerging challenges in the tech sector.

Peterking Quaye shared his vision for the future, saying, “In 2025, we aim to expand our reach and impact by involving more young women and marginalized groups in our programs. We will continue to focus on digital literacy, innovation, and policy advocacy to ensure that Liberia remains at the forefront of the digital revolution in West Africa.”
